S-FACTOR ACADEMY AWARDS EVENING 2019

S-FACTOR ACADEMY AWARDS EVENING 2019

S-FACTOR ACADEMY ANNUAL AWARDS were held on Saturday 23rd November 2019. Our Awards Evening is an opportunity to bring our community together to celebrate the achievements of our athletes and say thank you to our hard-working coaches and volunteers. This year’s ceremony did not disappoint!

Hosted by dynamic duo ADESOLA OJEMAKINDE and COLIN GRIFFITHS (our new family member), the evening got off to an amazing start with performances by up and coming artists TEHILLAH DANIEL and CLARISSA MAE.

Colin Griffiths and Adesola Ojemakinde

TEHILLAH, who gave a heart-warming soulful rendition of the smash hit ‘Blinded by your Grace’ (Stormzy) has sung behind some of the biggest names in the UK as well as on the soundtrack to the ‘The Rocket Man Movie’ By Elton John, and she continues to work heavily behind leading pioneers in the music scene.
CLARISSA brought the house down with her unique acoustic guitar rendition of Estelle’s ‘American Boy’ mashed with Calvin Harris’s ‘How Deep is Your Love’. Clarissa is definitely one to watch. At just 16 years old and having won the 2016 title of UK BUSKER OF THE YEAR this young star, who is an alumni student of Bonus Pastor College, has an incredible career ahead.

Tehillah Daniel                                                                               Clarissa Mae

We were honoured to also pay homage to the following sporting greats who joined us in celebrating our next generation of athletes (alphabetical order):
• CHRISTINE OHURUOGU, MBE (Olympic 400m sprint Champion) – S-Factor Academy Ambassador
• CLARENCE CALLENDER (British 100m Sprinter)
• DONOVAN REID (100m/200m Team GB Sprinter and Legendary Coach)
• JOEL CAMPBELL (Lifestyle, Arts and Entertainment Editor at The Voice Newspaper)
• LINFORD CHRISTIE, OBE (Olympic 100m Sprinting Champion)
• LLOYD COWAN, MBE (Elite Coach – Christine Ohuruogu, Simeon Williamson and Andy Turner)
• MARK BRIGHT (English Professional Footballer)
• MICHAEL PUSEY, MBE (Entrepreneur of Peckham BMX club)
• MYRTLE AUGEE (Olympic Weightlifting Champion)
• STUART ASHBY, MBE (Talent spotting Head of PE at Deptford Green School, mentor to our club founder and inspiration behind S-Factor Academy)

We also took the opportunity to give a special word of thanks to the club’s former Head Coach JOHNATHAN REGIS who stepped down from his position earlier in the year. Over his two-year tenure, S-Factor witnessed a significant spike in our senior athlete numbers – a particularly difficult demographic for retention levels. He was inspiring but firm – with a cheeky sense of humour and a non- nonsense attitude! With a legacy of sprinting in his blood – his injection of energy into training sessions S-Factor is proud to have our athletes competing on a national level once again thanks to his direction and strategy.
For this year’s feature segment we shone the spotlight on our panel of sporting greats – Michael ‘CK Flash’ Pusey, MBE, Mark Bright, Linford Christie, OBE and Christine Ohuruogu, MBE who discussed the highs and lows of their respective sporting journeys.

OUR MVP AWARD THIS YEAR WENT TO OLIVIA RABIN, an athlete who has shown diligence in her training and gives 150% to each session. Olivia is a good listener; she takes on advice given by coaches and exhibits this transition when competing. This has resulted in her winning a medal this year and getting herself ranked in the top 100 in the country. A well-deserved win as she is an absolute pleasure to coach.

Club Founder and visionary, LISA MILLER ended the evening with inspiring and motivating words to the club’s athletes, volunteers, coaches and other stakeholders. Having herself been on the athletic journey as a Team GB Junior Commonwealth Silver Medallist and having developed her post-athletic career at the heart of the England Athletics – Lisa saw the need for a club like S-Factor in the local community, and her experience and extensive network has been the driving force behind the club for the past nine years. As S-Factor Academy approaches its 10-year anniversary in April 2020, Lisa’s vision of establishing the number one grass roots, all-inclusive athletics club in South East London is well and truly alive – and the club’s development is without a doubt on an upward trajectory.

MISS MILLER DEFINITELY GETS OUR NOMINATION FOR AN AWARD FOR SERVICES TO COMMUNITY!

We must say a special thank you to all the contributors, friends and local business donors (four incredible raffle draws – as well as an epic memorabilia auction with t-shirts signed by Mo Farrah and Usain Bolt which raised £400 for the club) and the volunteers who made this year’s Ceremony one to remember. A heartfelt thank you goes to our resident DJ ROBERT MUSSINGTON (of SugaB Entertainment) for entertaining us with the evening’s soundtrack for the third year in a row. We must also say a HUGE THANK YOU to our Events Coordinator, DIANA PRINCE as well as the entire Events Committee for all the hard work, months of planning and effort that went into the event.

Last but not least, we are truly thankful for JONATHAN RONAN and MARTIN CANN the Principal and Premises Manager (respectively) of Bonus Pastor Catholic College for allowing us to use the school as our venue for three years in a row and offering a helping hand with the facilities for the evening, as well as introducing us to one of the evening’s STAND OUT PERFORMERS, CLARISSA MAE – gents we most definitely could not have done it without you!
