– Relay race challenge to beat Team GB Christine Ohuruogu’s PB –
– Lewisham East MP to attend –
LONDON (14th October 2016) – One of Team GB’s most famous faces, Christine Ohuruogu, is to visit Lewisham community amateur sports club, S-Factor Academy, on the Saturday, 22nd October from 10:00am-12:00pm as a coach and will provide valuable insight into her long standing and successful athletics career.
The 22nd October event, open to the general public, will also see Lewisham East MP and former Shadow Secretary of State for Health, Heidi Alexander, attend and lend support.
A 4x100m relay race of junior, senior and inclusive S-Factor Academy athletes will take place against a clock displaying Ms Ohuruogu’s 400m PB, which they will attempt to beat.
As part of the club’s fundraising strategy, it is inviting the local community and general public to try athletics for only £1. A smorgasbord of homemade food and drink will be provided.
S-Factor Academy Chair, Stephanie Hanson, said: “We’re honoured to have her as our ambassador. As a role model and inspiration to our young athletes, Christine’s achievements demonstrate that hard work and dedication pays off. We want to instil confidence in our athletes that they may very well be the Olympians of tomorrow. We want them to be thinking about Tokyo 2020 and beyond”.
“Christine Ohuruogu’s impending visit certainly has the athletes, coaches and volunteers all excited,” Khuwayne Linton, an S-Factor Academy athlete and Young Mayor of Lewisham candidate, added.
The Saturday 22nd October event follows on from the rebranding of S-Factor Academy’s kit, merchandise, website and various communications material – all part of a series of launches prior to and following the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics held in Rio.
All non S-Factor Academy members, the general public and media are invited to attend on the day. Promising athletes may be talent spotted.
Fusion, a sports and leisure management company, will provide support in terms of leisure management on the day.
Former Team GB champion in athletics, Lisa Miller, founded S-Factor Academy in 2010 to engage young people and channel their energy into building and enhancing their life skills.
